Is your dog cold?
Slickers Doghouse has a plethora of products designed to help keep dogs warm during the colder months.
Is your dog cold?
Let us first bust the age-old myth: just because your dog has fur, it doesn’t mean they don’t get cold! In fact, just like humans, certain breeds are susceptible hypothermia and even frostbite. In particular, dachshunds, chihuahuas, greyhounds, vizslas, Weimaraner, poodles and poodle crosses are likely to feel it the worst.
Fortunately, there are ways to protect them when the cold snaps of winter take their frosty grip on the landscape, and here at Slickers Doghouse we have plenty of products to help prevent your dog from getting cold.
Grip Trex dog boots set the standard in paw wear for dogs who hike, run and explore the great outdoors with their humans. Thanks to a rugged and resilient, Ruffwear-designed Vibram outsole, Grip Trex premium dog boots provide exceptional traction and protection on varied terrain. A breathable mesh upper allows paws to breathe, while the closure system combines hook-and-loop with hardware, cinching around the most-narrow part of the dog’s leg to provide a secure fit. They even feature a reflective trim for visibility in low-light, and come in a choice of eight sizes for a proper fit.
Hurtta Outback Boots are also suitable for a number of different uses, including walks on rugged terrain and in tough weather. Featuring a comfortable, ergonomic design, the weatherproof Houndtrex™ soft outer shell and rugged patterned durable rubber sole provides excellent grip on rough or unstable terrain. They are easy to put on and take off, with five sizes from S to XXL providing an optimum fit. Crucially, they will keep delicate paws warm and free of frostbite in cold, icy conditions.
Cosy dog coats
At this time of year it’s rare that we humans leave the house without grabbing a coat. But what about our dogs? During the winter, a jacket is an essential item to help prevent your dog from getting cold. The Element Dog Jacket by Ezy Dog is a good option, with sizes ranging from XS to 2XL. With a warm fleece lining, a wind and shower-proof shell, and reflective piping for safety in low light, not to mention a comfortable design that’s easy to put on and take off, the Element Dog Jacket is made to withstand all seasons.
Another option is the Dachshund Premium Wax Dog Coat. Made specifically for your favourite Slink, this coat from Earthbound has a premium look and is available in four sizes to ensure a glove-like fit for your dachshund. With three colours to choose from, it’s made from British premium wax on the outside, and lined with quilted cotton fabric on the inside. It uses adjustable Velcro straps around the neck and under the belly for a comfortable secure fit, and promises to keep out the cold when those cold snaps hit.
Drying mitts and thermal mats
Warm and dry; after a blustery, showery walk in the winter elements, getting warm and dry is usually the first thing on our minds when we arrive back home. To help dogs realise that same level of home comfort, our Cotton Towelling Drying Mitts by Ruff and Tumble are designed to quickly and easily absorb and wipe away moisture and mud. Made of two layers of cotton towelling, unlike thin towels, these mitts allow you to see and feel paws as you clean them. With a ‘one fits all’ size, an extra-long sleeve to protect your own clothes, and a loop so that they can be hung next to your door, this is a handy accessory that you’ll wish you’d known about years ago. Available in 9 different colours to suit your own personal taste.
Sherpa Pet Blankets are another excellent product from Earthbound. Each one has a warm, cosy and luxurious feel. With one side as fleece for design, and the other as Sherpa for comfort, these blankets are super snuggly on even the chilliest winter’s night. They also make beautiful throws for your sofa in the warmer months, just be sure to machine wash yours at 30 degrees first! Available in M, L and XL, with three warming colours to choose from.
For those of you who want to ensure your furry friend stays toasty this winter, the above products are just a small selection of the dedicated clothing and accessories we have to help protect your pooch from the elements. Explore our full range here.
